googleSan Francisco, USA – Google recently unveiled a new “Clean Energy 2030″ energy plan that it claimed would eliminate the United States’ dependency on fossil fuels by the year 2030.

The massive $4.4 trillion dollar plan was launched by Google’s philanthropic organization, Google.org, and they predicted that the country would save nearly 1 trillion dollars over the course of the plan’s 22 years.

Some details of the plan:

  • Stopping the generation of electricity from coal and oil by 2030
  • Relying more heavily on wind, solar, nuclear and geothermal sources
  • Cutting oil use for cars by 40 %
  • Large investments in transmission capacity for wind and solar power
  • Cutting fossil fuel usage by 88 %
  • Reducing carbon-dioxide emissions by 95 %
  • Reducing energy usage by 33 % via energy-efficient measures
  • Boosting sales of hybrid vehicles by 90 %
  • Increasing average fuel consumption of vehicles to 45 MPG

“With a new administration and Congress – and multiple energy- related imperatives – this is an opportune, perhaps unprecedented, moment to move from plan to action,” said Jeffery Greenblatt, Google.org’s manager of climate and energy technology. “We see a huge opportunity for the nation to confront our energy challenges. In the process we will stimulate investment, create jobs, empower consumers and, by the way, help address climate change.”
